Profile
I am a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies (C3SS) at the University of Ghana, where I also serve as Programme Coordinator for Climate Change and Sustainable Development. My research sits at the intersection of sustainability science, climate change adaptation, urban ecology, and ecosystem services. I am particularly interested in how communities—both urban and rural—interact with their environments in the face of climate change and how traditional ecological knowledge informs resilience strategies.
My work is shaped by an interdisciplinary approach, integrating environmental science, human geography, and policy analysis to explore sustainability challenges across Africa, Asia, and Europe. I have led and contributed to research projects on climate resilience, disaster risk reduction, food security, and urban green infrastructure, collaborating with institutions such as the United Nations University, the University of Tokyo, and the University of Ghana.
I am committed to bridging science, policy, and practice by engaging with local communities, policymakers, and international organizations. This is reflected in my contributions as a Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), my work on climate adaptation governance, and my consultancy roles with global and national agencies. My teaching and mentorship activities are also focused on developing the next generation of sustainability scholars and practitioners.

Background
I have a Ph.D. in Sustainability Science from the United Nations University in Tokyo, where my research examined how rural communities in Ghana’s semi-arid regions manage and utilize provisioning ecosystem services. Prior to that, I obtained an M.Phil. in Environmental Science and a B.A. in Geography and Resource Development from the University of Ghana.
My academic journey has been deeply international. I have held research positions at the University of Tokyo’s Integrated Research System for Sustainability Science, the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, and the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa. I have also worked on major interdisciplinary projects funded by DANIDA, Belmont Forum, and the British Council, among others.
Beyond academia, I have served as an expert reviewer for the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and provided consultancy services on climate vulnerability, food security, and sustainable land-use planning. My publications, spanning sustainability science, urban studies, and environmental management, contribute to discussions on how societies can adapt to climate change while maintaining ecological integrity.
I continue to advocate for sustainability through research, teaching, and community engagement, working to ensure that climate and environmental policies are grounded in both scientific evidence and local realities.
